The purpose of this study was to ascertain biomedical waste disposal methods, knowledge and influence on health of health workers in public hospitals in Calabar Education Zone, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, a null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. Conceptual and empirical literatures were reviewed in accordance with the variables of the study. Survey research design was utilized for the study. The population of this study comprised registered laboratory scientists, pharmacists, nurses/midwifes and waste management personnel in selected public health care facilities or hospitals in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State. Proportionate stratified random sampling and simple random sampling techniques were adopted in selecting the 484 respondents sampled for the study. A validated 20 item four-point modified Likert scale questionnaire Open Dumping Disposal Method and Health of Workers Questionnaire (ODDMHWQ) was the instrument utilized for data collection. The reliability estimates of the instrument ranged from 0.82-0.83 using Cronbach Alpha method. To test the hypotheses formulated for the study simple linear regression statistical tool was used at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was a significant positive influence of incineration of biomedical wastes on health of health workers in Calabar Education Zone. It was recommended among others that Government and hospital management should enforce proper biomedical waste management protocols, especially in discouraging open dumping and uncontrolled landfills.
